CURAD Xeroform Sterile Nonadherent Gauze Dressings
FEATURES AND BENEFITS:
- U.S.P. absorbent fine mesh petrolatum gauze is impregnated with a 3% Bismuth Tribromophenate deodorizing agent to help maintain moisture
- These wound dressings cling and conform, yet are permeable to allow minimal drainage to pass through to secondary dressing
- Nonadherent design helps prevent secondary dressings from "sticking" to wound/periwound skin and helps prevent trauma from dressing changes
- Ideal for nondraining to lightly draining wounds, including lacerations, minor or partial thickness burns, abrasions, skin graft sites and suture wounds
DESCRIPTION:
A sterile non-adherent protective dressing consisting of fine mesh absorbent gauze impregnated with 3% Xeroform (Bismuth Tribromophenate) in a petrolatum blend.
PETROLATUM DRESSING:
Fine mesh gauze impregnated with approximately 3 times its weight in ointment.
INDICATIONS:
1. As an initial layer for surgical incision sites, donor sites and skin graft recipient sites.
2. For abrasions and minor or partial thickness burns.
3. As an initial layer for wounds with light exudate where mild medication and/or deodorization is desired. ACTION: As a primary occlusive layer, covers and protects wounds; mildly deodorizing.
CONTRAINDICATIONS:
1. Xeroform Petrolatum Dressing is considered to be non-irritating and non-sensitizing. However, it should not be used on patients with hypersensitivity to bismuth.
2. Caution should be used where there is a history of atopy.
3. This is an occlusive dressing and is not intended for use on excessively draining wounds.
WARNINGS:
1. Do not use if unit package is opened or damaged.
2. Avoid multiple layers which may lead to maceration.
3. Discontinue use if irritation develops.
4. Avoid excessive packing and the resultant pressure on the wound.
ADVERSE REACTIONS:
Irritation, although rare, may develop in atopic patients or if sensitivity to bismuth tribromophenate exists.
DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION:
Effective coverage is obtained with a single contact layer of this dressing. An intermediate layer of appropriate absorbent or cushion material should be used and secured with suitable outer wrap or binder.
DIRECTIONS:
Effective coverage is obtained with a single layer. An appropriate absorbent secondary layer should be used to secure the Xeroform Petrolatum Dressing. Open foil envelope by peeling edges down from arrow sufficiently to allow aseptic removal of the dressing with sterile forceps. To unfold dressing, grasp both ends with sterile forceps and pull apart or cut with sterile scissors to meet specific size requirements. For use outside a sterile environment, clean technique should be utilized.
