Dr. Thomson graduated from the University of Kentucky School of Medicine and completed his orthopedic surgery residency at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. He then completed a fellowship in foot and ankle reconstruction at Washington University School of Medicine, Barnes and Jewish Hospital in St. Louis in 2006.
Before joining Elite Sports Medicine + Orthopedics, Dr. Thomson spent 10 years treating patients at Vanderbilt Medical Center’s Orthopaedic Institute. He was an assistant professor at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine and the Director of the Foot and Ankle Center at Vanderbilt Medical Center. He remains a foot and ankle consultant to Vanderbilt Athletics.
Dr. Thomson has been recognized as a Castle Connolly Top Doctor from 2021-2024. His foot and ankle specialties include orthopedic injuries, sports medicine injuries, arthritis, heel pain, ankle joint replacement, fractures, tendon disorders, deformities, post-traumatic reconstruction, ankle instability or pain, avascular necrosis, and osteochondral defects of the talus, bunions, neuromas, hammertoes, and claw toes.
